Intel Core i5-13400

Released Jan 3, 2023$221 launch priceDesktop Processor

An i5-12400 with a four-core E-core cluster added and 200 MHz more boost, still inside a 65 W base power budget. The multithreaded gain over the 12400 is real; the gaming gain is small, because the P-core design is barely changed from the 12400's.

Pros

  • 10 cores / 16 threads at 65 W base — strong multithreaded throughput for a locked, cooler-included chip
  • Boosts to 4.6 GHz, a step up from the 12400's 4.4 GHz
  • 20 MB L3 and UHD Graphics 730 at 1550 MHz, so it works with no discrete card
  • Bundled Laminar RM1 cooler is adequate at stock power limits
  • Drops into any existing 600- or 700-series LGA1700 board with a BIOS update

Cons

  • Shipped on two different steppings — some units are cut-down Raptor Lake dies, others are Alder Lake silicon, with slightly different cache and power behaviour
  • Games barely separate it from a much cheaper i5-12400
  • Locked multiplier, and only DDR5-4800 officially versus DDR5-5600 on the K-series parts
  • 148 W peak turbo means the stock cooler gets loud in sustained all-core loads
