Intel Core i7-11700F
Intel's 8-core, 16-thread Rocket Lake desktop processor for LGA1200, without integrated graphics. It runs from 2.5 GHz base to 4.9 GHz boost within a 65 W TDP, pairs 4 MB L2 with 16 MB L3 cache, and supports DDR4-3200 and PCIe 4.0.
Pros
- 8 cores and 16 threads at up to 4.9 GHz boost within a 65 W base TDP
- PCIe 4.0 with 20 CPU lanes for a graphics card plus an NVMe drive
- Native DDR4-3200 support across two channels, up to 128 GB
- AVX-512 support, uncommon among mainstream desktop chips
Cons
- No integrated graphics, so a discrete graphics card is required
- Locked multiplier, so no CPU overclocking
- Built on 14 nm, with no efficiency cores, and later 12th-gen chips offer more threads for similar money
- Requires an LGA1200 motherboard; no DDR5 support
