Alienware 16X Aurora (AC16251)
Dell's Alienware 16X Aurora (AC16251) is a 16-inch gaming laptop offered with Core Ultra 5 235HX, 7 255HX or 9 275HX chips and RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 graphics, with a 96Wh battery. Specs here are for the Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5070, 32GB/1TB model with a 240Hz IPS display; US pricing started at $1,949.99. Dell has since added OLED and Core Ultra Plus options.
Pros
- 240Hz 2560x1600 IPS panel with G-SYNC and Dell-rated 100% DCI-P3 coverage; it measured about 490 nits in review testing
- Core Ultra 9 275HX reached about 3,080 single-core and 19,270 multi-core in Geekbench 6.7 in review testing
- Anodized aluminum lid and bottom with a magnesium alloy frame, and a lid that opens flat to 180 degrees
- Two SO-DIMM slots (up to 64GB), two M.2 SSD slots and a removable Wi-Fi 7 card make it easy to upgrade
- Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, Gigabit Ethernet and an IR camera for Windows Hello face sign-in
Cons
- Battery life is modest for a 96Wh pack: about 4 hours 16 minutes of Wi-Fi web browsing in review testing
- Launch configurations stop at the RTX 5070 with 8GB of VRAM; OLED and RTX 5070 Ti options only arrived with the later refresh
- Heavy for a 16-inch gaming laptop at 2.57kg, and the 280W power adapter that ships with the RTX 5070 version is large
- No SD card reader, and the review notes that USB-C Power Delivery charging is supported only on the 10Gbps USB-C port, not the Thunderbolt 4 port
