Intel Core i5-12450HX
The Intel Core i5-12450HX is an Alder Lake-HX laptop processor announced in May 2022. It combines 4 Performance cores and 4 Efficient cores (8 cores, 12 threads), boosts to 4.4 GHz on the Intel 7 process and carries 12 MB of cache. Intel rates it at 55 W base power and 157 W maximum turbo power, with basic 16-EU integrated graphics.
Pros
- 8 cores and 12 threads, from 4 Performance and 4 Efficient cores
- Performance cores boost to 4.4 GHz
- Supports DDR5-4800 and DDR4-3200 memory, up to 128 GB
- PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 support, with up to 20 lanes from the processor
Cons
- Only 8 cores in total, against 12 on the Core i5-12600HX
- Basic 16-EU UHD Graphics, so a discrete GPU is needed for gaming
- Older Alder Lake architecture on the Intel 7 process rather than a newer Core Ultra design
- 157 W maximum turbo power calls for capable cooling
