HMD Crest Max 5G
HMD's Crest Max 5G is the higher-spec sibling of the Crest, sharing its 6.67-inch FHD+ 90Hz OLED and Unisoc T760 chipset but adding 8GB RAM, 256GB storage and a 64MP main camera with 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro cameras. It launched in India on 25 July 2024 at Rs 16,499 (about $196) and went on sale on 6 August.
Pros
- 64MP main camera with a 5MP ultra-wide lens, which the standard Crest does not have
- 8GB RAM and 256GB storage with microSD expansion up to 256GB for Rs 16,499
- FHD+ OLED panel at 90Hz, a 50MP front camera and a 33W charger included in the box
- 5000mAh battery that HMD rates to keep at least 80% capacity after 800 charge cycles, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack
- Designed for self-repair: HMD says battery swaps, a new charging port or a replacement display can all be done at home
Cons
- Single mono speaker, no NFC and no wireless charging
- The 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro cameras are basic, and a hands-on review found low-light shots weak
- HMD's spec page lists two years of quarterly security updates with no number of OS upgrades; a hands-on review reported no major OS upgrade was promised at launch
- Introduced in India with rupee pricing only, and no official US price
